The New and Renewable Energy Centre (NaREC) is a Centre of Excellence set up by One NorthEast as part of the Strategy for Success programme. NaREC will build on and exploit the Region’s new and renewable energy assets and knowledge base and is a partnership between industry and academia. NaREC is currently establishing a PV Technology Centre to complement their activities in wind and marine technologies.

Centre of Excellence for Nano & Micro Photonic Systems (CENAMPS) is a Centres of Excellence, set up th
rough One NorthEast's Strategy for Success. Cenamps is leading the build and management of the PETeC facilities at NETPark in Sedgefield, County Durham. The PETeC project is a purpose built state of the art development and prototyping centre dedicated to the exploitation of functional materials using advanced manufacturing processes to achieve very high volume and low cost solutions in the field of Organic Photovoltaic (OPV) and Solid State Lighting (SSL).

Northumbria Photovoltaics Applications Centre (NPAC) is located within the School of Engineering and Technology at Northumbria University. Established in 1984, it provides an expert research and consultancy service in PV. The Centre has a wide portfolio of projects ranging from solar cell development, testing and characterisation to performance monitoring, analysis and environmental assessment. NPAC has been involved with building integrated PV projects for over 10 years, including several of the installations within the region.

Durham University is the leading academic research institution in the North East. We are especially active in researching the next generation of thin film solar cell materials and devices, and are presently fundholder of the national EPSRC Supergen Initiative programme "PV-21". This work is coupled with renewables research on wind and wave power and social factors in the Durham Centre for Renewable Energy.

Cleaner Air Solutions is a company, based in County Durham, that specialises in photovoltaics. Cleaner Air Solutions have been actively working with various organisations across the UK to encourage the uptake of renewable energy technologies; they provide energy efficiency consultancy services, site surveys and recommendation through to system design, specification installation and commissioning. The company is amongst the first three in the UK to successfully complete assessment under the new BRE UK Microgeneration Certification scheme and they are also one of only a handful of companies in the UK to be OFGEM approved for dealing in ROC's (Renewable Obligation Certificates) and CCL's (Climate Charge Levy Exemption Certificates).
